TECH NEWS: Changing of the Guard
A Job Well-Done
Since the inception of TECH NEWS in 1996, United Way of New York City has worked in partnership with John L. German and Non-Profit Computing, Inc. (NPC), who were responsible for researching and preparing the content for each issue of the newsletter. In this brief time, the newsletter has garnered a great deal of praise and received several awards for its outstanding content and delivery.
Perhaps the most rewarding confirmation of the newsletter's quality and service is IBM Corporation's ongoing sponsorship of the newsletter. "We're very grateful for the contribution John and NPC have made to the newsletter," says Reg Foster, Manager of Corporate Community Relations, IBM. "TECH NEWS is a vital component of IBM's partnership with the United Way. Along with sponsorship of other United Way technology outreach initiatives -- such as TEAMing for TECHnology and informational forums - it allows us to help nonprofits use technology more effectively."
United Way of New York City, too, thanks John German and NPC for their hard work in helping to establish TECH NEWS as a leader in its field.
Passing the Baton
This issue of TECH NEWS introduces Vivienne Leheny as the newsletter's new researcher-writer. Vivienne has worked as a research-writer and editor in a variety of capacities, with both the private and nonprofit sectors. Most recently, she produced web content and the company's biweekly newsletter for an upstart dot-com in the health care arena.
We also welcome several new members to the TECH NEWS Editorial Board. We are delighted to have two representatives from the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications Office - Deputy Commissioner William Keller and Associate Commissioner Ellen Stein. Tim Mercure of United Neighborhood Houses and Ted Taberski of Builders for Family and Youth, Diocese of Brooklyn, Inc., also join us, along with Pam Haas, Program Manager of IBM's Corporate Community Relations.
TECH NEWS is celebrating the past while looking towards the future by revisiting several stories that we have covered in the past and which merit a second look. Inside, you will find articles providing updates on the United Way of New York City's TEAMing for TECHnology partnership with IBM and an update of the Information and Referral Database Collaborative as it is realized through the CARES program.
Going Forward
As we go forward with our new team, rest assured that the range and quality of information that have distinguished TECH NEWS will continue. To this end, we appreciate your taking the time to help us improve our service to you by completing and returning the enclosed survey. Among other things, we hope to determine how many of our readers have e-mail access, since in the Spring of 2001 we will change the way we circulate TECH NEWS from hard copy to e-mail link.
